Fascia and research

Dr. Ida Rolf was an early proponent of the importance of fascia connective tissue in the body. Research is catching up with these ideas.

Imaging studies show that, for people with low back pain, the fascia gets thicker and does not glide as well.

"Remember, all the time our superficial fascia is under remodeling, but if we have some adhesion, the remodeling is not going well. So we need to free the tissue, to restore the gliding, and that way the remodeling can work much better." - Dr. Carla Stecco

Other recent recent expands on understanding the receptors in our skin that respond to touch. Rolf method work is typically done with slower strokes, possible activating these receptors and helping the tissue release.
