Working with strengths

Research indicates that when people work to their strengths, they perform better and are happier than when the emphasis is on improving weak areas. Now that I write it, that sounds pretty obvious. However, the performance reviews at work have always had a question about areas for improvement. Even my personal projects tend to take on a weak area rather than building up a strength. There are often good reasons for not taking the time for adequate care of the body. One reason is modern life often puts us in our heads and we become out of touch with our bodies. Another is just life: so many competing demands for our time. I struggle with this, too, even though I have a bit more flexibility in my schedule than many people.

More on exercise benefits

Those of you who know I hurt my foot recently while exercising may have also heard my (somewhat tired) joke that being healthy can be bad for you. The reality is, apparently, just the opposite as described in this recent LA Times article about a new study on fitness.
